KPMG’s Indirect Tax practice recognizes that payroll taxes represent a significant financial and compliance obligation for Canadian organizations. Costs associated with workers’ compensation premiums, CPP/QPP contributions, EI, and provincial health taxes can materially impact business operations.
Our team delivers payroll tax compliance, recovery, audit support, and advisory services across all jurisdictions. This opportunity combines hands-on payroll tax expertise with client-facing work, including exposure to advisory engagements and project-based consulting.
In this role, you will work closely with Partners and senior team members to deliver payroll tax engagements and contribute to increasingly complex, project-based work within a consulting environment.
What you will do
- Lead payroll tax engagements across compliance, advisory, audit, and recovery initiatives with accountability for deliverables and client outcomes
- Evaluate client payroll processes and internal controls, identifying risks and recommending practical improvements
- Research and prepare technical advice for client queries
- Reconcile Federal/Provincial tax filings for clients
- Manage client projects independently, including timelines, deliverables, and follow-ups
- Collaboration with Global Mobility Services (GMS) and other tax teams on cross-functional payroll matters
- Build and maintain client relationships, resolving day-to-day payroll tax matters while contributing to ongoing advisory work and client delivery
- Liaise with federal and provincial tax authorities to resolve issues and support audits or disputes
- Identify payroll tax planning opportunities, including overpayment reviews and recovery initiatives
- Contribute to proposals and identify opportunities within existing client relationships
What you bring to the role
- Approximately 5+ years of experience in payroll, including exposure to payroll tax compliance, advisory, or audits
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation across federal and provincial jurisdictions
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions, including Québec
- Hands-on experience with payroll filings, reconciliations, and identifying payroll tax issues or recovery opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to deliver client-facing work within project-based engagements
- Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage accountability for outcomes
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation considered an asset; candidates actively pursuing designation are encouraged to apply
