At KPMG, you’ll join a team of diverse and dedicated problem solver, connected by a common cause: turning insight into opportunity for clients and communities around the world.

You will be part of a Private Client Law Service team that is recognized for a multidisciplinary approach to helping private clients and Trust companies and charities in issues related to estates and trusts. You will also work with families in any kind of dispute that arise in estates and trusts. You will work within the KPMG Private Enterprise Law and Family Office practices, giving you a holistic view of clients’ challenges and opportunities.

You will join the Trust and Estates team in Edmonton as an Associate, supporting private clients through complex and often sensitive matters. You will bring experience in estate litigation and a practical approach to resolving disputes.


What you will do

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to clients in respect of estate litigation matters, adult guardianship and trusteeship applications, trust disputes including involving Indigenous trusts, will challenges, family maintenance and support applications, farm dispute and many other types of estate litigation related to the estate and trust area,
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support client files and team strategy,
  • Interpret estate and trust documents, including trustee disputes, trust windups,
  • Deal with passing of accounts in estates, trusts and power of attorney litigation,
  • Manage disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution processes,
  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, hearings, and court proceedings,
  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients and referral partners,
  • Contribute to issue planning, file management, and clear client communication,
  • Stay current on relevant legal developments and complete continuing professional development

What you bring to the role

  • You are 2+ years post-call and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
  • You have litigation experience in some or all of the areas listed above
  • You can independently manage files with strong judgment, prioritization, and follow-through
  • You communicate clearly in writing and verbally, including with clients in sensitive situations
  • You have experience supporting or leading negotiations, mediations, applications, or hearings
  • You are skilled at legal research, analysis, and translating complexity into practical advice
  • You are organized and reliable, with strong time management in a fast-paced practice
  • You are motivated to build client relationships and contribute to practice growth
  • You have a dedication to using technology and AI in practice within accepted and ethical guidelines
