The opportunity

Nordic Payroll Leader, location: Copenhagen / Helsinki / Oslo / Stockholm / Warsaw / Wroclaw

EY’s Nordic payroll function, under EY’s Finance organization is aiming to modernize its payroll operations and service delivery through an ongoing digital transformation initiative. We are seeking a dynamic leader who can drive this transformation, set up the future state operating model and provide leadership to the local payroll teams.

The Nordic Payroll Leader will play a strategic role in leading the regional payroll operations and support the delivery of EY’s local payrolls across the Nordic countries. You will also play the role of a transformation champion by leading and transforming the end-to-end payroll processes whilst developing and implementing regional strategies for payroll. This is a strategic role requiring experience in payroll transformation, multi-country payroll service delivery management, process improvement and payroll compliance/controls. Ability to create multi-functional streams and mentor high performing teams. Provide outstanding contribution and collaboration with key business stakeholders across Regional Leadership, HR/Talent, Finance, Legal and Business/ Service Lines.

The Nordic Payroll Leader will report to the Regional Finance Leader.

Your key responsibilities

  • Leadership experience in planning and executing the leadership’s vision for the payroll transformation from conceptualization through implementation across identified geographies.
  • Lead with a transformative and futuristic mindset driving end-to-end payroll processes improvements, digital adoption, robust process ownership, management of payroll SOX controls and leading practices.
  • Lead and manage projects: Drive planning and delivery of complex payroll transformation programs and implementations from initiation to completion with support from enablement functions.
  • Build and manage multi-disciplinary functions (operations, process, quality & technology) that can successfully operationalize the end-to-end payroll processing lifecycle.
  • Support the development and deployment of global programs impacting the region and drive leading practices through process standardization, simplification and automation opportunities.
  • Strategic thinking and leadership experience with an emphasis on relationship management and communication at all levels within the organization. Collaborate with key stakeholders, including HR, Finance, IT and legal teams, to ensure seamless transformation outcomes.
  • Monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure successful delivery of country payrolls. Establish robust reporting framework to track and communicate progress to leadership.
  • Manage relationships with payroll vendors (service providers) to ensure seamless delivery and drive robust SLAs with the vendors.
  • Hiring, Goal Setting, Performance Monitoring, development of Career Path in building high performing teams.

Skills and attributes for success

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Should be a Graduate or Post-Graduate. Having a Professional degree with Payroll/ Accounting or Finance background is desired.
  • Overall, 12 – 15 years of relevant payroll experience, min 5+ years in leading multi-country delivery.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. Knowing a Scandinavian language is welcomed.
  • Be located in a Nordic country or (willing to relocate to) Poland (Warsaw or Wroclaw).
  • Successful track record in business transformation outcomes.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience in leading multi country payroll delivery teams and ability to lead a team of experienced professionals.
  • Strong domain expertise on international payroll practices. Deep understanding of industrialized and multi-country payroll delivery is desired. Nordic payroll expertise is preferred, but not a must.
  • Proven track of managing the deliverables under a fast-changing expectations with accurate quality in a matrix environment.
  • Good understanding of HRIS systems like SAP, Oracle or Workday. Exposure to supporting trends around data, Cloud, RPA and AI is an advantage.
  • Driven operational excellence by adopting a continuous improvement mindset, lean six sigma, process efficiencies and ability to effectively implement change management.
  • Proven ownership of delivering on strategic projects including technology programs.
  • Exposure on International assignments on Finance or Payroll Transitions, Auditing, Consulting or other engagements is an added advantage for this role.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong business & stakeholder management skills
