POSITION OVERVIEW
At BDC, the only bank dedicated exclusively to Canadian entrepreneurs, we support the growth of small and medium-sized businesses across Canada. As a Senior Commercial Account Manager in the Charlottetown area, you will develop new business opportunities while managing an existing client portfolio. You will deliver tailored financing solutions and advisory services to entrepreneurs. Your work contributes directly to the success of local businesses and the regional economy.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
In a typical week, you will:
- Meet with entrepreneurs, clients, and prospects in the Charlottetown area to understand their business operations, identify challenges, and recommend appropriate BDC financing and advisory solutions
- Execute an individual action plan aligned with the Business Centre’s objectives to grow and retain an existing client portfolio while building a pipeline of new business opportunities
- Analyze financial information and structure, negotiate, and present financing proposals, applying sound credit judgment
- Present financing recommendations that meet both client needs and BDC requirements
- Develop and maintain relationships within the local business community (e.g., associations, chambers of commerce) to generate referrals and new client opportunities
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal partners and external stakeholders
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required Qualifications (Must-have)
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field
- 3 to 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or commercial account management
- Experience developing and maintaining a professional network within the business community
- Experience analyzing financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow)
- Experience structuring, negotiating, or presenting financing or credit proposals
- Demonstrated ability to identify business needs and provide tailored solutions
- Strong communication skills, including active listening, client discussions, and influencing stakeholders
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities
- Results-oriented with demonstrated achievement of sales, growth, or portfolio targets
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-have)
- Experience in commercial banking, financial services, or lending
- Knowledge of credit risk assessment and underwriting principles
- Experience working with entrepreneurs or small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs)
- Existing professional network in the Charlottetown or Prince Edward Island business community
- Bilingual proficiency (English and French)
