POSITION OVERVIEW
BDC Capital is the investment arm of BDC – Canada’s only bank devoted exclusively to entrepreneurs. With over 8 billion dollars under management, BDC Capital supports Canada’s most innovative companies across the full spectrum of risk capital. The Climate Tech Fund (CTF) and Sustainability Venture Fund (SVF) form a dedicated platform focused on investing in companies enabling the energy transition, GHG reduction, climate resilience, and Canada’s net-zero ambitions.
The bilingual (French and English) Analyst will join the Climate Tech and Sustainability investment team as an early‑career professional, supporting both new investments and the active portfolio. Located at the Montreal Head Office, the role spans deal sourcing, diligence, execution as well as portfolio monitoring, management and support.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Platform Building & Fund Operations
Support management of the deal pipeline and prepare financial analysis for reporting
Maintain investment research files, legal documentation, and internal databases
Ensure accurate documentation of investments, amendments, and disbursements
Contribute research and insights to the fund’s intellectual capital and thought leadership
Deal Sourcing
Conduct market research and sector mapping to identify emerging climate and sustainability opportunities
Engage with entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem participants at industry events
Perform initial business plan reviews and prepare screening memos with recommendations
Deal Execution & Due Diligence
Perform due diligence on markets, competition, technology, management teams, and financials
Build and validate valuation models, forecasts, and financial pro formas
Coordinate diligence processes including expert calls and reference checks
Support KYC, AML, and eligibility compliance procedures
Portfolio Management
Monitor portfolio company performance versus forecasts
Support fair‑value and mark‑to‑market analysis
Assist portfolio companies through strategic introductions and ecosystem support
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in commerce, economics, finance, engineering, science, or STEM-related field
1–3 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, consulting, corporate development, or relevant operating roles
Strong interest in climate tech, sustainability, and energy transition sectors
Technical Skills
Strong Excel and financial modeling skills (scenario and sensitivity analysis)
Ability to synthesize complex technical and market information
Comfort with Word and PowerPoint for investment memos and presentations
Technical or scientific background (coding, engineering, chemistry) considered an asset
Bilingualism in English and French
Personal Attributes
Highly analytical, curious, and detail-oriented
Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced investment environment
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Professional judgment and comfort interacting with senior stakeholders
