POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Advisor, Defence Industry Expert will collaborate closely with the VP, Defence Sector Strategy and leverage deep sector expertise and a strong network to strengthen BDC’s position within the defence ecosystem and deepen credibility within the sector. Acting as a trusted advisor, to provide Defence sector expertise to guide business decisions and collaborates to embed defence knowledge across the organisation. Through thought leadership and strategic engagement, the Senior Advisor plays a pivotal role in advancing BDC’s influence and supporting Canadian businesses in the defence sector.


CHALLENGES TO BE MET


Defence Sector Advisory & Industry Expertise

  • Provide expert guidance to support business decision-making and strategic initiatives.

  • Advise senior leadership on opportunities, risks, and competitive positioning within the defence market.

  • Deliver deep knowledge of the defence sector to inform market penetration strategies and identify potential opportunities.

  • Monitor and analyse defence sector market developments, regulatory changes, and technological advancements impacting the industry.

  • Embed defence knowledge and awareness across the organisation, ensuring alignment with industry trends and best practices.

Strategic Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including government, industry partners, and associations.

  • Support the organisation in developing and deepening partnerships within the defence ecosystem.

  • Represent BDC at industry forums, conferences, and working groups to enhance visibility and influence.

Thought Leadership & Market Intelligence

  • Act as a trusted expert to advance BDC’s influence and visibility through thought leadership and sector insights.

  • Identify emerging trends and provide actionable intelligence to anticipate market shifts.

  • Prepare reports, briefings, and recommendations for internal stakeholders.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 20 – 25 years relevant experience in the defence sector, with a strong understanding of market dynamics, procurement processes, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain high-level relationships across industry and government.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations.

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written, in both official languages

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
