POSITION OVERVIEW

The Solution Architect (SA) is accountable to create solutions, to support current and foreseeable changes due to new technical or business requirements. The solutions are functionality appropriate, technically sound well integrated and support reuse within existing ecosystem and by other lines of business (LOB).The SA develops the solution architecture by collaborating with Business units, Architecture, Development, Security and Operations and provides value-added, professional advice to the Lead Solution Architect, Senior management team, and business partners. The SA is accountable to ensure proposed solution architectures are consistent with Enterprise/Line of Business (LOB)-wide initiatives and aligns with the roadmaps established by Enterprise Architecture.

Reporting to the Director, Solutions Architecture, you will work closely with a team of Solution and Enterprise Architects (across multiple domains and platforms) as well as Data and Analytics specialists who interact closely with the business to understand their needs and create adequate solutions. This role will allow you to gain exposure to many areas of BDC business, be in the forefront to understand business challenges and provide innovative solutions to address them.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Translate business requirements into long-term architectural solutions for the business with aim to ease the sharing of consistent information between lines of business.

  • Integrate in project and product teams as an expert in solution architecture application domain. Guide and propose technological solutions that meet business needs while remaining aligned with IT strategies.

  • Lead and/or participate in the design of solutions that meet the business needs of projects based on architecture targets and foundations that maximize the achievement of business objectives in a simple, efficient, compliant and secure manner, and that promote reusability.

  • Mentorship of existing technical resources in architecture and governance of marketing domain solutions.

  • Focus on application patterns and non-functional requirements, architectural reference models, application interface types, and service-oriented architecture.

  • Create and seek approval of architecture artifacts at the ARB (Architecture Review Board) and communicate architecture decisions and key solutions impacts to project stakeholders.

  • Identifies risks or issues with technology solution & design which may impact realization of project benefits and provides guidance and support to stakeholders in making good decisions to proactively resolve or mitigate potential risks/delays to the project.

  • Lead or participate in RFP technical requirements, including preparation and vendor’s response evaluation.

  • Lead or active participate on projects cost evaluation. Provides input into the preparation of business case.

  • Develop solution architectures, seeking practical solutions that optimize and re-use capabilities. You will care passionately about the integrity of the IT capabilities you develop. You will be responsible for designing and building solutions that best meet the business needs and are aligned with the IT strategy and roadmaps.

  • Provide expertise and counsel ensuring technology teams and business partners understand the architectural options and technology choices with focus on enabling detection and management of the risk of money laundering and identity fraud and give our customers a seamless onboarding experience.

  • Support implementation of approved architectures as subject matter expert, compliance monitor, and go-to architectural authority on projects.

  • Identifies and researches relevant technologies, performs Spikes/ Proof of Concepts / Prototypes, and recommends applications of such technologies to future product architectures.

  • Keep abreast of ongoing research and new technology, evaluate their applicability, and make recommendations as required to enable BDC to best align its technology to meet its business objectives.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Relevant technology certifications or working towards them (asset).

  • Experience with architecture frameworks (TOGAF, SAFe, other) and architecture tools – (certification asset).

Professional Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in solution architecture and design, preferably in a financial services or banking industry, including tools and techniques in developing solution architecture artefacts.

  • In-depth experience (5-10 years) in the study, design and implementation of solution and information architectures for large, well-integrated transactional, collaborative and analytical systems with focus on marketing and associated domains.

  • Experience with Agile methodology for architecture such as the use of Minimum Viable Architecture (MVA) concept focused on adding business value.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to derive practical and viable solutions from the strategic plan vision.

  • Master foundational architecture framework, architecture systems evaluation, risk analysis and management, fit–gap analysis.

  • Expert knowledge of design and analysis methodology and application development processes. Excellent understanding of System Development Life Cycles (SDLC).

  • Experience in application Integration, using enterprise & platform architectures, API, events and queues and micro-services development and management.

  • Experience in information architecture, data integration, data mapping to provide the means of application integration by considering the target as well as the source.

  • Systems and platform experience, including web, cloud. Master Microsoft Technology Stack.

  • Experience as developer or technology specialist who designs and maintains software within the .NET Microsoft framework (asset).

  • Data integration architecture, Content and data migration architecture and design.

  • Proven expertise in defining and implementing Business Processes, Security and Integration in the enterprise applications domain, including extensive experience as a solution architect in the following areas: development and maintenance of systems, application and systems integration, package acquisition, evolving the application target architecture.

  • Expert knowledge in the techniques to produce designs of complex systems, including requirements discovery and analysis, formulation of solution context, identification of solution alternatives and their assessment, technology selection, and design configuration with focus on:

    • Credit decision automation

    • Business rules engines

    • Data engineering

  • Experience in the definition, creation and management of reference architectures.

  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguous or little information and quickly move to the core issue of an IT or business problem.

  • Experience within digital banking. digital transformation and online channel platform implementation programs in a major financial institution (asset).

  • Experience using of BIAN (Banking Industry Architecture Network) is a nice to have.

  • Experience with technology product evaluation, selection, acquisition, and deployment processes.

Soft Skills

  • Strong bilingual (French/English) communication, interpersonal and facilitating skills that include developing presentations, selling concepts, and conducting work sessions different levels of the organization.

  • Expert ability to manage multiple projects high in complexity and of strategic importance.

  • Collaborative team player and leader. Demonstrates energy and drive to “make things happen.”

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain a strong working relationship with key client stakeholders such as business representative, architects, and other technical resources and proven track record to them on anticipated changes that will impact business and /or strategic priorities

  • Preferred location: Montreal. BDC will consider candidates from other locations.

  • Financial industry experience (major asset).

  • Hybrid work required – 2 days/week on site.
