POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Analyst, Research leads quantitative and qualitative research projects autonomously within the Research and Market Intelligence team. These research projects have three target audiences: BDC clients, Canadian entrepreneurs and BDC employees. As part of their work, the Analyst leads the various research activities leading to in-depth analyses of the results obtained and ensures the thoroughness of the research method and the quality of the results. Ultimately, these analyses are used by various internal teams, as well as BDC's SMC, to make informed decisions and take action.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Developing analyses from primary data to help different teams to:
Identify precisely the needs, attitudes and preferences of the targeted respondents;
Identify products, services and markets in which BDC can play a key role in the development of Canadian SMEs
Implement strategic, tactical and operational initiatives to develop and implement new products, services and programs that respond to the identified needs and target markets
Producing high quality research reports and presentations tailored to various audiences such as decision makers, BDC business partners, BDC executives and the media.
Managing the various research projects driving the analyses and using a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including:
Surveys conducted 1) internally using BDC's online panel or 2) externally using marketing research firms
In-depth interviews and focus groups prepared and facilitated by the Senior Analyst themselves
Other qualitative and quantitative research methods deemed relevant to a project and using the latest research techniques
Proposing relevant research methods, creating appropriate measurement tools, performing or leading the statistical processing of data, analyzing results and producing research reports or summaries.
Advising and managing research projects for the various teams that use the services of the Research and Market Intelligence team (Marketing and Communications, Product Development, Strategy, Operations, etc.) and ensuring the delivery of relevant and high quality information and recommendations.
Collaborating effectively and continuously with other members of the Research and Market Intelligence team and keeping abreast of all available sources of information to ensure the timely and efficient production of various reports and analyses.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
University degree in humanities or social sciences, psychology, administration or other relevant field. Graduate degree an asset.
At least seven to eight years of experience in a similar position, i.e., a research position where surveys and interviews are used as data collection methods and where the person has written research reports and prepared presentations for various audiences. Experience in SME research is an asset.
At least two years experience in a marketing research firm.
Excellent analytical skills, rigour and high attention to detail.
Excellent written communication skills.
Knowledge of the Canadian business sector and industries, and a strong curiosity about business and economic news.
Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
Strong ability to simplify and synthesize information.
Excellent organizational, planning and priority project management skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent knowledge of PowerPoint and Word (Microsoft Office).
Strong quantitative analysis skills. Proficiency in SPSS, Q Software or other statistical analysis tools is an asset (at a minimum, the candidate must be able to lead these analyses).
Bilingual English/French; must be comfortable conducting in-depth interviews in both languages, namely with SME owners.
