About Athletics & Recreation
Sport and recreation have the power to change people's lives and build communities of engaged citizens. The Department of Athletics and Recreation’s mission is to champion the development of the whole student through sporting excellence and active wellbeing. Through this, we empower our varsity athletes to achieve their full potential both athletically and academically. With our recreation programs we focus on active wellbeing as a learning strategy, providing opportunities for students to thrive socially, personally and at their studies.
Our programs, along with our commitment to the communities we serve, foster a spirit of belonging and pride, and contribute to a civil and sustainable society. Be it in the sports arena, on the field, or in our athletic and fitness centers, we engage students, faculty and alumni beyond the classroom.
In the last five years, TMU’s teams have achieved historic firsts for rankings and championships. Meanwhile, they have reached new heights for academic achievement, such as overall athlete GPA, while breaking records with volunteer service hours. As a result, Bold alumni are people who make a difference wherever they go.
The TMU Bold operate 8 varsity teams on which 180 student-athletes compete nationally in U SPORTS, and an additional 22 departmentally supported teams which compete regionally and nationally in intercollegiate competition.
TMU Recreation is committed to supporting student health and wellness. There are over 400,000 visits each year to the RAC (Recreation & Athletic Centre) and the MAC (Mattamy Athletic Centre) where weight and cardio rooms, recreational studios, gymnasiums, pool, track, squash courts, arena, saunas and more can be accessed Through a dedicated fee that is part of tuition, students gain access to both facilities and all weekly fitness classes and intramurals.
