The base salary range for Contract Lectures hired August 16, 2026 through August 15, 2027 is $79,644.07 to $101,855.82 per annum. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Contract amounts are calculated based on the number of semester hours in the appointment.

AFF604/FIN800 Qualification Requirements
Educational Background & Experience: Master’s degree or PhD in Finance, Ethics, Business, or a closely related discipline, with relevant post-secondary teaching experience or industry expertise in financial ethics.
Instructional Delivery: Proven ability to design and deliver weekly 3-hour lectures utilizing engaging pedagogical methods, including case studies, facilitated class discussions, and guest speaker engagements.
Subject Matter Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge and capability to teach normative ethical theories (deontological/teleological) alongside key financial topics:
- Agency theory and conflicts of interest in financial markets
- Fiduciary duties and trustee responsibilities across pension, mutual fund, and wealth management sectors
- Financial regulations, insider trading, bribery, and corporate governance structures
- Contemporary themes such as Islamic finance, ESG/ethical investing, and diversity and inclusion in finance
- Assessment & Evaluation: Strong track record in designing, administering, and grading rigorous course evaluations, including individual executive memos, term papers, group presentations, quizzes, midterms, and final exams.
- Course Administration & LMS Proficiency: Demonstrated experience managing learning management systems (e.g., D2L Brightspace) for content delivery and grade distribution, alongside a commitment to providing student mentorship through regular office hours.
Required:
Academic Background: A Master’s degree (MSc, MBA, or MFin) or Ph.D. in Finance, Accounting, Business Ethics, or a related discipline.
Subject Matter Expertise: Deep understanding of ethical decision-making, financial regulation, corporate governance, and professional codes of conduct within Canadian and global financial markets.
Teaching Experience: Demonstrated ability or experience in teaching university-level finance or business ethics courses, with strong student evaluations.
Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills to facilitate high-level classroom debate and evaluate student writing/analytical assignments.
Preferred:
- Professional Designations: CFA, CPA, CFP, or relevant financial compliance/ethics credentials.
- Industry Experience: Direct experience working in financial services, investment management, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, or public policy.

Required:

Teaching Skills:
Demonstrated experience of ability to effectively teach in an online environment which includes demonstrated knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of online courses, including using course management system tools to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students in the course.
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of personal computers that are relevant to this course, including document creation, file management, internet research, and communications.
TMU has discontinued its Faculty Course Survey and adopted a five-question Course Operation Survey (COS) that assesses the student experience in the course that is utilized by teaching faculty in the Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association. The COS is not to be used to assess teaching effectiveness in the Contract Lecturer hiring process.

1) Common Midterm Assessment: Depending on the release of the Associate Dean Academic’s master schedule, a common midterm assessment may be scheduled between Weeks 6 and 8 (most likely on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday). Instructors are required to be present in the exam room to address student questions. Further details will be provided once dates are finalized.
2) Exam Supervision: Pursuant to Article 17 of the CUPE Unit 1 Collective Agreement, candidates must be available to attend and supervise all midterm and final examinations as scheduled by the Dean’s Office and University Scheduling. Compliance with all Article 17 obligations is mandatory; failure to attend or unexcused tardiness for scheduled examinations will impact eligibility for future teaching appointments within TRSM at Toronto Metropolitan University.
