The base salary range for Contract Lectures hired August 16, 2026 through August 15, 2027 is $79,644.07 to $101,855.82 per annum. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Contract amounts are calculated based on the number of semester hours in the appointment.

1) Common Midterm Assessment: Depending on the release of the Associate Dean Academic’s master schedule, a common midterm assessment may be scheduled between Weeks 6 and 8 (most likely on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday). Instructors are required to be present in the exam room to address student questions. Further details will be provided once dates are finalized.
2) Exam Supervision: Pursuant to Article 17 of the CUPE Unit 1 Collective Agreement, candidates must be available to attend and supervise all midterm and final examinations as scheduled by the Dean’s Office and University Scheduling. Compliance with all Article 17 obligations is mandatory; failure to attend or unexcused tardiness for scheduled examinations will impact eligibility for future teaching appointments within TRSM at Toronto Metropolitan University.
* STANDARD SECTION DEFINITION: Sections that are expected to run based on historical enrolment numbers and student intention data and which are paid based on the terms of the collective agreement. If a standard section is cancelled due to low enrollment, the required notice or payment in lieu of notice of cancellation will be provided.

Effective May 1, 2022, the University’s Vaccination Policy has been suspended. However, due to the fluid and dynamic nature of the COVID-19 virus, should public health indicators change, the University reserves the right to reinstate the Vaccination Policy, as deemed necessary. Should this policy be reintroduced, all successful candidates will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and provide such proof via the TMU Safe App.
Course delivery can be online, in-person or hybrid at the sole discretion of the hiring unit. Candidates hired for in-person courses will be required to carry out their teaching on campus. Candidates teaching remotely are required to have access to the appropriate technology, i.e. computer with camera and microphone and high-speed internet.
Types of positions are as follows:
- PT: part-time up to 2 sections
- RW: reduced workload 3 to 4 sections
FS: full sessional 5 sections

Department/School Contract Lecturer Appointment Committee Requirements
In addition to the minimum TRSM qualification requirements, the School/Department requires applicants to maintain the following qualifications:
CRITERIA FOR FINANCE DEPARTMENT CONTRACT LECTURER
PhD in Finance and teaching experience at the post-secondary level are preferred.
Minimal qualifications: Master’s Degree in Finance or Business Administration (a concentration in Finance is preferred).
Professional designations may be considered if accompanied by significant non-teaching professional experience within the last 5 years.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial theory and practice, including corporate financial analysis, investments analysis, portfolio management and personal financial management.
Recent teaching experience in the course, or a similar course
Evidence of having demonstrated skills/ability to teach effectively in a University environment
Evidence of recent professional experience (provide listing of recent professional roles, consulting work, or other expert activities, with a listing of dates, clients, time frames, and outcomes)
Evidence of continuing strategy for maintaining currency in the field (scholarly activities, conferences, professional development courses, etc.)
Contract Lecturer Appointment Committees may require demonstration of evidence from any of the following categories:
Education:
PhD. or equivalent in a field related to target course
PhD (or equivalent)
Enrolled in PhD Program (this requires a letter of submission from your supervisor indicating you're actively engaged in completing your PhD and the target date for defense).
MBA or equivalent
Terminal degree (PhD) in other discipline
Master's degree
Teaching Experience:
Teaching target or similar course at Toronto Metropolitan University graduate program.
Teaching target or similar course at another university graduate programs.
Teaching target or similar course at Toronto Metropolitan University undergraduate program or another university undergraduate program.
Teaching target course at College.
Practice field experience:
Current (past 6 years) practice in related field 6-10 (depends on quality of experience, including relevance to course, level of responsibility, relevant professional accreditation, etc.)
Past (more than 6 years ago) practice in a related field.
Teaching Skills:
Demonstrated experience of ability to effectively teach in an online environment which includes demonstrated knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of online courses, including using course management system tools to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students in the course.
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of personal computers that are relevant to this course, including document creation, file management, internet research, and communications.
TMU has discontinued its Faculty Course Survey and adopted a five-question Course Operation Survey (COS) that assesses the student experience in the course that is utilized by teaching faculty in the Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association. The COS is not to be used to assess teaching effectiveness in the Contract Lecturer hiring process.

Applicant Responsibilities:

The address or addresses to which the letter of appointment should be sent, and any periods when the candidates cannot be contacted.
Contract Lecturers with priority of consideration may include which of the Continuing Education credit courses they would prefer should the volume of teaching applied for not be available from the teaching functions available to discharge.
Evidence of having demonstrated skills/ability to teach effectively in a University environment (please include recent student evaluations with your application).
Acceptable teaching assessments from any formal classroom visits by an assessor (provide most recent assessor’s teaching evaluations or equivalent combination demonstrating ability to teach effectively.)
