Toronto Metropolitan University is reshaping the downtown core of Toronto with three new buildings: the Mattamy Athletic Centre at the Gardens, the Toronto Metropolitan University Image Centre in the heart of campus, and a Student Learning Centre on Yonge Street. In addition, currently in progress is the development of a new multipurpose building, the Church Street development (CSD). This new building will be located just north of Dundas on Church Street and will be home to four academic health services programs, Toronto Met. University food services, administration, and a student residence.

Relevant Experience:

All positions require candidates to have previous classroom teaching/teaching assistant/tutoring experience with MTH140 (Calculus 1), MTH 141 (Linear Algebra) and MTH 240 (Calculus II) and additional courses listed under each position.

There will be ten positions available at Math Support that span over four categories. Below are the categories and the number of positions available per area. When applying, please check to ensure you meet the criteria stated. As well, in your cover letter, please state clearly which categories you would like to be considered.

Position 1: General Math Facilitator (Positions available: 5)

General Math Support Consultant is someone with expertise in Calculus I, Calculus II, Linear Algebra , and other Engineering Math courses.

Enrolled in: 1st year Masters, 2nd year Masters or Ph.D. in Engineering

Relevant Experience: Require candidates to have at least ONE additional teachable subject listed here.

  • MTH110/MTH314 (Discrete Mathematics)
  • MTH207 (Calculus and Computational Methods I)
  • MTH309/430 (Differential Equations)
  • MTH310 (Calculus and Computational Methods II)

Expertise in SPSS, MATLAB and teaching online using Zoom would be preferred.

Position 2: Statistics Facilitator (Positions available: 1)

Statistics Facilitator is someone with expertise in Calculus I, Calculus II, Linear Algebra, and Statistics.

Enrolled in: 1st year Masters, 2nd year Masters or Ph.D. in Engineering or Pure/Applied Mathematic

Relevant Experience: Require candidates to have expertise in all areas below:

  • Statistics in QMS102 (Business Statistics 1), QMS130 (Quantitative Business Analysis), QMS202 (Business Statistics II), QMS210 Applied Statistics for Business, or QMS230 (Statistics for Accounting and Finance)
  • Probability and Statistics in MTH304/404 or MTH380/480, MTH410 (Statistics for Engineers)
  • QMS522 (Linear Algebra)
  • WMS702 (Calculus for Business)
  • MTH700/MTH800 (Financial Mathematics I and II)

Expertise in Financial Mathematics, Matlab, R for Statistics, SPSS, Casio fx-9750GII calculator, Texas Instruments BA II Plus calculator, and online tutoring with Zoom would be preferred.

Position 3: Pure Math and Financial Math Facilitator (Positions available: 2)

Pure Math and Financial Math is someone with expertise in Calculus I, Calculus II, Linear Algebra, mathematical proofs, Real Analysis, and Financial Math.

Enrolled in: 1st year Masters, 2nd year Masters or Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics

Relevant Experience: Require candidates to have expertise in all areas below:

  • Probability and Statistics in QMS102 (Business Statistics 1), QMS130 (Quantitative Business Analysis), QMS202 (Business Statistics II), QMS 210 (Applied Statistics for Business), QMS 230 (Statistics for Accounting and Finance), and MTH304/404 (Probability and Statistics I & II)
  • Calculus such as MTH307/310 (Calculus and Computational Methods II), MTH330 Calculus and Geometry

  • Programming language (C, C++, Java, Python, R Programming, Data Science, Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition, Matlab)
  • Different aspects of computer science (data structures, artificial intelligence, operating systems and the software/hardware interface, software engineering, robotics, data communication networks, compiler design, computer graphics, CAD/CAM, computer-assisted learning, artificial intelligence, database systems, multimedia systems, the theory of parsing, and advanced algorithms.

Expertise in Matlab, Programming Language R, and online tutoring with Zoom would be preferred.

The successful candidate should also possess strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to respectfully communicate and advise students with varying levels of need in relation to math, statistics and computer science course materials.

The successful candidate should be available for at least three hours of tutoring during the week and on weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) between 9 am - 9 pm

The department of Student Life & Learning Support consists of the Tri-Mentoring Program, International Student Support, Student Life & Campus Engagement, Math and Computer Science Support, Writing and Language Support, and Study Skills and Transition Support. Learning Support teaches essential academic skills and study techniques to support students with expressing their knowledge and communicating their ideas. While Student Life programs connect students to resources, staff, and peers, assisting with their transition in and through Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). It is our mission to provide opportunities for students to take ownership of their TMU experience so that they grow as socially, civically and academically engaged members of their communities.
