The base salary range for Contract Lectures hired August 16, 2026 through August 15, 2027 is $79,644.07 to $101,855.82 per annum. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Contract amounts are calculated based on the number of semester hours in the appointment.

POG320: Social Identity and Citizenship

Despite the historical expansion of formal citizenship to previously excluded groups, several groups have found that social inequality, marginalization and exclusion have limited national belonging, rights and political participation. This course explores these various experiences thorough a theoretical focus on class, gender, race, immigrant, sexual, differently-abled, and Indigenous identities.
POG424: Human Rights and Global Politics

Should universal human rights be considered a global norm? Or should concerns of national sovereignty and cultural pluralism take precedence? Discourses of human rights are powerful and ubiquitous and are used in many varied and complex ways in the contemporary world. This course will examine the historical emergence of human rights discourses in the West, their institutionalization, and their deployment in the contexts of the Cold War and the war on terror. A range of theories, critiques, and contemporary debates about human rights will be explored. (Global)
a) A full workload half-sessional appointment is for 15 hours in any one semester.
b) A reduced workload half-sessional appointment is for at least 9 but less than 15 semester hours in any one semester.
c) A part-time hourly appointment / one semester is for less than 9 hours in any one semester.

· 0-5 points for completed MA unrelated to the course
· 0-5 points for significant post-secondary training directly related to the course
2. EXPERIENCE*: (30%)
· 25-30 points for five years or more of experience in a field related to the course
· 15-25 points for less than five years of experience in a field related to the course
· 0-15 points for experience in a field unrelated to the course
3. TEACHING SKILLS: (25%)
Applicants will be asked to submit peer and/or student teaching evaluations
· 20-25 points for evidence of excellent teaching success in a course or courses related to the course being applied to teach
· 15-20 points for evidence of very good teaching success in a course or courses related to the course being applied to teach or excellent evidence of teaching success in a course or courses unrelated to the course
· 10-15 points for evidence of satisfactory teaching success in a course or courses related to the course being applied to teach or very good evidence of teaching success in a course or courses unrelated to the course
· 0-10 points for evidence of training in post-secondary teaching methods and curriculum design
· 0-10 points if no evidence of teaching success is submitted with the application
4. CURRENCY^: (20%)
Internal (Toronto Metropolitan University) applicants will be asked to submit Currency Reports
· 15-20 points for scholarly or professional activities in the last 5 years that are directly related to the course
· 10-15 points for scholarly or professional activities in the last 5-10 years that are directly related to the course
0-10 points for employment experience in the public sector that is directly related to the course
· 0-10 points for scholarly professional activities indirectly related to the course with the following
INTERACTIVE SKILLS: (5%)
· 0-5 points for demonstrated ability to effectively interact with colleagues and students
A MINIMUM of 60 points is required for an applicant to be hired.

· The extent and variety of relevant work and/or community experience in the professional field or discipline
· The extent of University teaching experience
· Previous experience teaching the same or equivalent courses at Ryerson or an equivalent course at another University.
^According to the CUPE Collective Agreement ‘Selection Criteria’ Currency is understood as:
· Demonstrated evidence of having maintained up-to-date knowledge (including practice skills, where appropriate) in their specific/discipline
AND/OR
· Demonstrated evidence of having maintained academic currency in the specific field/discipline relevant to the course (s) for which the candidate has applied which may include publication in a peer reviewed journal, presentation, attendance at relevant academic conferences; Attendance/participation in teaching related conferences (e.g., Toronto Metropolitan University Faculty Conference), workshops, seminars etc.; employment in a field that is directly related to the course.
