Toronto Metropolitan University is reshaping the downtown core of Toronto with three new buildings: the Mattamy Athletic Centre at the Gardens, the Toronto Metropolitan University Image Centre in the heart of campus, and a Student Learning Centre on Yonge Street. In addition, currently in progress is the development of a new multipurpose building, the Church Street development (CSD). This new building will be located just north of Dundas on Church Street and will be home to four academic health services programs, Toronto Met. University food services, administration, and a student residence.

  • Preparation for classes or workshops on writing skills. Preparation of written or audio-visual materials; revising and maintaining course-related material. Development of activities/approaches/workshops focused on teaching writing to first-year undergraduate students.
  • Serving as a writing skills tutor; leading discussions, workshops, activities to support the development of students’ writing skills.
  • Assessing students’ writing skills. Enhancing and supporting writing skills through teaching/workshops in or outside of class.
  • Assisting students with their writing and assignments through office hours with individual students, either electronically or in-person.
  • Conferring and working collaboratively with the faculty member/course instructor to determine activities suitable to the course and learning needs of the students.
  • Attending workshops, training, and professional development activities run by the WSI coordinators. Attending role preparation and development workshops available through the university as appropriate.
  • Attending monthly WSI team meetings.
  • Providing a written evaluation and assessment of the successes and challenges of the WSI program at the end of each term.

Previous evaluation of performance as an Assistant at the University (if applicable).

Enrolled in: 1st year Masters, 2nd year Masters or PhD
Greater preference will be accorded first to Doctoral candidates, then Master's candidates.

Relevant Experience with writing instruction geared towards undergraduate students.

Additional Skills: Demonstrated experience of ability to effectively lead workshop discussions in an online environment. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of personal computers that are relevant to the WSI program context.

PLEASE NOTE: The delivery of the WSI program may be online, in-person or hybrid, and successful applicants will be required to have access to the appropriate technology, i.e., computer with camera, microphone, and internet.

Master - $51.17 per hour July 23rd to August 31st 2026, $52.45 per hour September 1st to December 23rd, 2026
PhD - $55.26 per hour July 23rd to August 31st 2026, $56.64 per hour September 1st to December 23rd, 2026

Estimated Total Hours of Work* 30 hours (July/August) 50 to 160 hours (September-December)

*Actual hours may vary at offer time dependent on qualifications and determined rate of pay. Employees can work up to a maximum of 130 hours per semester or 390 hours per academic year. Employees shall not be guaranteed work and when not on assignment they shall not receive any pay or payment in lieu of benefits.
