About Human Resources

The HR Strategic Partnerships & Labour Relations unit is a team of human resources experts and innovators who contribute to the achievement of Toronto Metropolitan University's strategic priorities. We partner with our clients to create and deliver outstanding practical and strategic human resource solutions, programs and services that enhance workplace culture, engagement and inclusion. Are you passionate about driving organizational success through strategic HR leadership? We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Human Resources Partner to provide expert consultation and coaching to a portfolio of client groups across the University. Reporting to the Director, HR Strategic Partnerships & Labour Relations, you will advise on a broad range of HR functions and will partner closely with leaders across faculties and departments to implement best-practice HR programs, foster organizational effectiveness, and support the achievement of institutional goals. As the successful candidate, you will apply an intersectional and inclusive approach to supporting leaders, by:

  • Supporting the Senior Human Resources Partner with Human Resources and Labour Relations matters for assigned client groups.
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with front-line leaders and union representatives.
  • Leading workforce planning, change management, and organizational design for clients.
  • Monitoring trends, diagnosing issues, stakeholder identification and developing early resolution solutions and strategies to resolve identified and anticipated HR issues and providing proactive and strategic HR solutions
  • Supporting front-line leaders with complaint stage meetings, grievances, conflict resolution, workplace investigations and employee relations matters.
  • Collaborating with HR’s Centres of Expertise to assist with the implementation of HR wide processes, policies, and initiatives by working collaboratively with HR colleagues to continuously improve HR service delivery; including providing insights on improvement opportunities and sharing internal and external leading practices.

Qualifications
To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Business (HR), Industrial Relations, Public Administration or Social Sciences.
  • Completion of a Human Resources Certification (CHRP or CHRL) or equivalent
  • 5+ years’ experience in a formal advisory or partnership role within a large, unionized organization. Preference is given to experience in academic, public sector or para-public sector organizations.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Skilled relationship builder with a demonstrated ability to partner with multiple leaders, providing effective guidance and challenge where appropriate
  • Highly developed critical thinking, diagnostic skills, and analytical and problem-solving skills to solve complex issues.
  • Experience supporting clients through change with consideration and inclusion of organization design principles and approaches.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and strong project plans, tools and resources.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing schedules and priorities.
  • Proven ability to incorporate and model an equitable, diverse and inclusive approach into all aspects of the role.
  • Availability to be on campus minimum of 2 days per week (can change depending on operational needs).
