PART-TIME HOURLY APPOINTMENT/ ONE SEMESTER
Course: IND605 - Experimental Design and Quality Assurance
Semester/Term: Fall 2026
Hours/Section: 3 hrs lecture group/ 1 section
Estimated Number of Students: +- 60 Students
Course Calendar Description: The objective of this course is to introduce students to the design of experiments as well as statistical quality control. Topics on experimental design include single-factor experiments, block designs, factorial designs, 2-factor experiments and Taguchi's approach to parameter design. Topics on quality control include product flow chart, cause-effect diagram, Pareto Analysis, statistical process control, acceptance sampling and Taguchi's approach to quality.
A part-time hourly appointment / one semester is for less than 9 hours in any one semester. The normal full-time teaching workload in the Department is a maximum of 16 hours per week across the Fall and Winter terms.
Academic Assistant support is academically required to deliver this course/section. The successful applicant will be provided appropriate Academic Assistant support and be responsible for their supervision as outlined in Article 12, sections 12.2 and 12.3 of the collective agreement.
Additionally, if eligible, they will receive 20% of the total extra student payment as outlined in Article 17 of the Unit 1 Collective Agreement.
Lecture Schedule: Friday 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM & Wednesday 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Course delivery in Fall 2026 will be in-person.
Candidates hired for in-person courses will be required to carry out their teaching on campus.
- All applicants must be in possession of a Masters degree in industrial engineering or in a relevant discipline. Specific courses may require other and/or higher qualifications as specified in the Department's preferred combinations indicated above.
- Applicants should have up-to-date knowledge in the specific fields/disciplines of relevance for all of the courses in the position(s) for which they apply.
- Applicants should have good human-relations skills, including reliability, collegiality, professionalism, a respect for the rights of co-workers and students, and ability to meet commitment.
- Licensed PEng in Canada is required and teaching experience is desired.

1. Indicate their preference regarding type of appointment as per Article 13. 5. (l) (Appointment Procedure - Posting), the courses or number of sections of the same course and/or package, and all the courses the candidate considers themself qualified to teach. If possible, include the number of times the course content of each of the applied-for courses has been taught.
2. Attach an updated resume and/or academic qualifications and any other relevant information concerning their candidacy. Such information will also include the applicant’s current email address.
3. The up-to-date email address to which the letter of appointment should be sent and a statement of any periods during which the applicant cannot be contacted.
4. Successful applicants shall be required as a condition of employment to validate their academic qualifications through the provision of original transcript(s) no later than six (6) weeks from the date of the original appointment.
While applicants may submit Faculty/Course Survey results from the Winter 2020, Spring/Summer 2020, Fall 2020, Winter 2021, Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 these results will not be used as evidence of teaching effectiveness by the Contract Lecturer Appointment Committee due to the impact of COVID-19 on these semesters. A negative inference will not be drawn if FCS results are not submitted for these semesters. Alternate evidence of teaching effectiveness may be provided by the candidate for consideration by the CLAC.

Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in teaching a similar course at a Canadian university.
The Department will provide upon request to any applicant with CUPE experience a current relative seniority list, with instructors who have taught in the department within the last three academic years ranked according to seniority.
