General Purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Admission and Student Progress (LANG Dean’s Office), the Graduate Program Specialist (GPS) provides support and offers expertise for all aspects of graduate programs within the Lang School of Business and Economics.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Graduate Program Specialist is responsible for directly overseeing and administering the processes and procedures for admissions and in progress students for graduate programs at Lang. This includes admissions application processing and evaluation, ongoing support of applicants, collaboration with graduate program coordinators (GPCs) and faculty; tracking, monitoring and reporting of applicant and student status; knowledge and application of UofG Graduate Admission and Records policies and procedures; and management of key deadlines and activities for critical admissions operational activities.

Requirements

Two (2) year Community College graduation in a related field and one (1) to two (2) years of previous experience in a client service environment with multiple stakeholders.

Experience within an academic environment (particularly graduate studies) is a strong asset, namely for knowledge of standard operating procedures within an academic context, and knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to student admissions and progress.

The ability to make decisions using integrity and sound judgement.

The ability to demonstrate exceptional: interpersonal skills; communication skills (both oral and written); systems-focused approach; time management and prioritization skills; and a history of demonstrating initiative, and making sound judgements in ad hoc/ambiguous situations.

Advanced skill in using Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams) and Salesforce.

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with student databases (Colleague), ExperienceApps, and Scholaro.

An understanding of academic and professional programs, university policies and procedures, and administrative systems are considered an asset.
