Teachers do exceptional work both inside and outside the classroom. Perimeter is here to support those efforts. Our teacher resources and programs help educators boost scientific literacy and enable them to share the wonder and excitement of modern physics with their students. As the Perimeter Institute Teacher in Residence you are responsible for supporting all outreach programming including but not limited to developing and delivering teacher workshops, online courses, resource development and student programming presentation.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide pedagogical expertise and leadership in the creation and presentation of Educational Outreach products and programs for students in grades five (5) through twelve
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team to create exceptional quality resources and programs
- Work collaboratively on the content creation and design of in-class resources, teacher workshops, student programming and public programming as required
- Serve as a Perimeter Ambassador to teacher, student and public audiences
Required Qualifications
Completed undergraduate education in a science or STEM related field
Bachelor of Education with secondary teaching qualifications for intermediate/senior grades
An active classroom teacher with a minimum of five (5) years teaching science or physics in a Canadian high school
Experience writing and/or reviewing educational resources for teachers
Familiarity with Perimeter’s Educational Resources is an asset
A skilled communicator capable of conveying scientific and technical concepts clearly across diverse audiences and formats
Strong interpersonal skills and team building experience
- Knowledge of new or evolving pedagogical classroom strategies
- Strong collaboration skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to multitask
- Qualification in special education is considered an extra asset
- Bilingualism would be an extra asset
Additional Information
- Additional hours of work, including some evenings and weekends, beyond the standard work week may be required during activities and special events
- Some domestic travel will be required across Canada up to a maximum of 15% of the total secondment (travel may involve weekends)
Compensation is based on the annual salary of the successful candidate and paid equally over the term of the 12-month contract. Interested applicants are expected to work throughout the months of July and August.
