Work environment

The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is a federal department responsible to ensure the integrity and market ability of grain for the domestic and international grain trade, from producer to global customer.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff 1 full time indeterminate position.

This selection process may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar positions, at the same group and level, with various security requirements, various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, acting, casual employment, part-time worker, assignment and secondment) and with various linguistic profiles.

EDUCATION
• Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Significant* experience in the operation and maintenance of basic mechanical equipment.

*«Significant experience» is defined as a rich and diverse experience normally associated with having worked during the past five year. The complexity and diversity of tasks as well as the level of autonomy will be taken into account.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Significant* experience in verification, calibration or maintenance of mechanical systems such as agriculture equipment, elevator sampling systems, or any other mechanical systems.
• Experience in trouble shooting for basic mechanical equipment or laboratory equipment.
• Experience in writing reports and recommendations for equipment or systems to ensure they meet satisfactory functional requirements.
• Experience in a laboratory environment utilizing or maintaining equipment or instrumentation.
• Experience working in the grains, feedstuffs or food industry.
• Experience in operating within a quality management system.
• Experience in carrying out inspection and/or evaluation of mechanical systems.
• Experience of sampling systems or similar mechanical systems used in the food industry or other related fields.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain, in good standing, the appropriate security level clearance for access to any port or work related site.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability and willingness to lift grain samples (up to 20 kg), to climb ladders and work at heights.
• Ability and willingness to be exposed to grain dust / soil, and to outdoor conditions in an industrial environment. Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication, and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
• Ability and willingness to work in and around moving equipment in an indoor/outdoor industrial environment.
• Ability and willingness to adhere to CGC and industry health and safety standards and procedures.
