a. Visit the Pukaskwa National Park Administration office and drop off your resume in person with one of the Parks Canada staff.
Duties
This dynamic role will have you working within the Resource Conservation Team at Pukaskwa National Park. Your responsibilities will include facilitating logistics for backcountry field work, including food and equipment, gathering and calibrating technical equipment, reading and applying scientific protocols, traveling the land using GPS and compass, completing data entry, supporting the Ecologist Team Lead with data analysis and reporting. You will also be part of the Emergency Response Team and support the Visitor Safety and Human-Wildlife Coexistence Programs. This includes covering radio dispatch for staff and external partners, participating as a team member in the response to emergency incidents, implementing prevention programs to reduce bear attractants in the campground, and supporting park operations in various other ways. You will operate or ride in a variety of modes of transportation and work in a challenging and breath-taking natural environment.

Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to staff vacant position but also to build a list of qualified candidates to staff future vacancies at the same group and level with various tenures (indeterminate, seasonal, temporary, full-time, part-time, casual/ as-and-when), security levels or linguistic requirements in same or other parts of the country.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
EDUCATION
• Have completed at least two years of post-secondary program related to the environment and/or natural sciences; or
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
* acceptable is defined as at least 2 years in the past 5 years of training and/or experience obtained in environmental or natural science fields.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience travelling and working in the field, and using a variety of means of transportation;
• Experience using a variety of equipment or methods to collect samples or data on natural and/or cultural resources;
• Experience entering, manipulating and completing basic analyses of data in computer software (e.g., in Microsoft Excel, or R).

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of local natural and cultural resources, as well as weather conditions specific to Pukaskwa National Park;
• Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture and heritage of Pukaskwa National Park;
• Knowledge of basic techniques and strategies to travel on the land and waters of Pukaskwa National Park efficiently and safely.
ABILITIES
• Ability to follow scientific protocols;
• Ability to carry out data manipulation and to conduct basic analysis of data using a variety of computer applications.

The following may be applied / assessed at a later date (may be needed for the job)
Preference may be given to individuals who have:
• Experience operating a boat or vessel;
• Experience operating an ATV;
• Experience participating to scientific project involving complex logistics.
Preference may also be given to candidates that demonstrate that their contribution to a project in the field of environmental studies includes three or more phases of a project: design, logistics, synthesis of background information, definition of data/sample collection requirements, data/sample analysis, presentation of results) and/or that the complexity of the project is higher: remote field work, multiple type of data collection, use of various pieces of equipment, management of multiple database, statistical analysis, presented to peers, result in a publication.
Conditions of employment
• Obtain & maintain Reliability Security Status;
• Complete a pre-employment medical (and periodic medical assessments);
• Willing to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime, if required;
• Willing & able to wear a Parks Canada uniform, safety equipment and follow safety procedures;
• Valid Class "G" driver's license;
• Successful completion of the Canadian Firearm Safety Course (organized by the park);
• Successful completion of Standard First Aid-CPR or higher level of training (organized by the park);
• Successful completion of the Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety Course (organized by the park).
