Who can apply: All eligible students who have legal status to work in Canada. Please indicate in your application the reason for which you are entitled to work in Canada: Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or work permit.

To be eligible, you must be:
• registered as a full time or part-time secondary or post secondary student in an accredited academic program; or
• participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level, operated under the authority of an accredited academic institution, and
• meet the minimum age requirement to work in the province or territory where the job is located as well as to any specific age student program requirements.

Duties

Student Skyline Attendant:
Provides traffic management, visitor services, revenue collection, at key day use areas in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This includes but is not limited to: flagging and other traffic management, providing information to the visiting public, litter picking, regulation and safety compliance.

Student Entry Gate and Visitor Centre Attendant:
Revenue collection at various visitor service locations including visitor centres, entry gates, day use areas and retail locations. This includes providing comprehensive information to the visiting public on a wide variety of topics including but not limited to: campgrounds, trails, points of interest, safety, wilderness travel, park regulations and policies, selling a variety of passes, and properly accounting for revenue received.

Student Campground Attendant:
Visitor service, revenue collection and campground operations. This includes but is not limited to greeting visitors and providing orientation, information and direction; confirming reservations; selling of campsites; providing support to grounds cleaning and litter picking.

All attendants must be willing to resolve visitor complaints or concerns as needed and demonstrate tasks to others when required.

Work environment

Cape Breton Highlands National Park of Canada is currently searching for students during the 2024 visitor season. Parks Canada sites on Cape Breton Island are defining features of Canada and provide communities and visitors with beauty, recreation, and a unique sense of history.

Students who are currently registered at a secondary school (Minimum Grade 11) or post-secondary at an accredited institution or participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level, operated under the authority of an accredited academic institution.

The proof of registration must include the student's official name and the name of the educational institution.

A list of registered classes is not considered a proof of enrolment.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance

Required to wear a Parks Canada uniform.

Required to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays.

Required to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolations locations and by various means of transportation.
