Duties
All Heritage Presenter streams will deliver interpretive presentations, programs and activities to provide visitors of the park/site with opportunities to discover, appreciate, learn about, and enjoy the natural and cultural heritage of Jasper National Park or Fort Saint James National Historic Site. This includes hands-on and participatory activities, visitor centered activities, and story sharing.

Stream 1 - Jasper - General Interpreter:
Your role focuses on the delivery of formal interpretive programs in the town, campgrounds, and day-use areas. You will learn and use effective and dynamic communication techniques and skills to engage and inspire visitors from around the world. Program topics may include but are not limited to fire and forest health, human-wildlife coexistence, glaciers and climate change, species at risk, and aquatic invasive species
Stream 2 – Jasper - Living with Wildlife Interpreter:
Your role focuses on human-wildlife coexistence and visitor engagement. You will drive a lot while on patrol, looking for, and responding to wildlife traffic jams and unattended wildlife attractants. At wildlife jams, you will communicate safety messages with visitors so Wildlife Management Officers can focus on the animals. You will also provide safe wildlife viewing opportunities, activity stations, roving, and work at special events. This work requires effective and dynamic communication skills to keep you, your co-workers and wildlife safe.
Stream 3 - Fort St-James - Costumed Interpreter:
Your role focuses on bringing the fort alive by providing 1st and 3rd person interpretive programming. Fort St. James National Historic Site is one of western Canada’s oldest fur trading posts. The site includes a museum, cafe, original and replica log buildings, a garden and live animals that bring to life the fur trade world of New Caledonia in the 1890s.

Jasper is the largest and wildest of the Rocky Mountain National Park, extending over 11,000 square kilometres. Over 2 million visitors a year come to explore the glaciers of the Columbia Icefield, hot springs, lakes and waterfalls and the twinkling galaxy of stars.

This process will be used to fill anticipated vacancies for 2025.
This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic requirements in same or other parts of the country.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma/high school diploma according to provincial standards or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
Degree equivalency:
An acceptable combination of individual courses or experience relevant to the position (i.e. interpretation, performing arts, public speaking, dramatic arts, museum studies, traditional Indigenous teachings, history or other discipline relevant to the position) may be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working in the fields of natural and/or cultural interpretation, theatre/performing arts or public communications;
• Experience delivering messages and information to public audiences (not academic course related audiences) in face-to-face situations with the purpose of engagement, entertainment and/or motivation;
• Experience in customer service, including but not limited to: information services, safety messaging, compliance/prevention duties, addressing complaints and concerns.
If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)
ASSET EXPERIENCE:
• Experience facilitating interpretive activities that are holistic, participator, dialogic and/or visitor centered.
• Experience in driving on busy roads/highways in all types of weather conditions; minimum 2 years driving experience.
• Experience working near wildlife.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance
• You will be required to possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence recognized by the province/territory applicable to this offer of employment.
• You must be willing to work overtime.
• You will be required to work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays as scheduled by your delegated manager. Compensation will be as prescribed in the Terms and Conditions of Employment applicable to you.
• You must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains and weather conditions in the performance of the duties.
• You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
• You may be required to wear a uniform while performing your duties. In this case, Parks Canada will provide you with the uniforms you require in accordance with the Parks Canada Uniform Policy.
