This position requires an on-site presence of at least 4 days/week, and generally 5 days/week during the spring and summer months.
Duties
As the operations Manager for the Petawawa Research Forest, you will be supervising and coordinating the work of technical staff and students to support technical activities relating to research forest operations, as well as supervising contract workers. You will be responsible for setting-up and coordinating for research operations activities, including harvesting operations, site preparations and forest renewal activities.

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff 1 term position.
Initially, this process will be used to staff the position on a temporary basis for a duration of 12 months with a possibility of extension.
Additionally, a pool of candidates may be established through this process to fill the same or similar positions with various tenures within Natural Resources Canada.

Education:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note).
Note:
The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
• A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience:
• Significant* experience providing comprehensive advice and specialized technical services related to forest land base management.
• Experience assisting in the development of silvicultural prescriptions for harvest, renewal, and tending operations.
• Experience planning and conducting field surveys and summarizing results in reports.
• Experience coordinating and monitoring contractors who provide forestry services including at least one of the following: forest road maintenance, harvesting, silviculture.
• Experience collaborating with partners for the coordination of operational and research activities.
• Experience with human resources management, including supervision and performance assessment.
• Experience using digital collection tools, including GIS and GPS.
*Significant experience is defined as experience normally acquired over a duration of three (3) years within the last five (5) years.

Asset Education:
• Graduation with a diploma from a recognized post secondary institution with specialization in forest technology.
Asset Experience:
• Experience with financial management, including budgeting and reporting.
Operational Requirements:
• Willing and able to do fieldwork for extended periods of time in a range of conditions.
• Willing and able to work flexible hours and overtime.
Conditions of employment
