Duties
Public Services and Procurement Canada manages one of the largest and most diverse portfolios of real estate in the country and is the Government of Canada's real property expert. Our Pacific Region extends from the Canada/U.S. border to the Arctic, including British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. Our real property professionals include office accommodation specialists, architects, engineers, technologists, real estate experts and asset and facility managers. Our work in delivering services is equally diverse—it includes construction and repairs to federal correctional facilities, RCMP facilities, research laboratories, border crossings, parks facilities, transportation facilities as well as office fit-up in owned and leased facilities. Providing design management, project management, site inspections, investigations, evaluations and attends site meetings for Correctional Services Canada (CSC) institutions, RCMP facilities and federal government project sites.
As a Discipline Engineer (Mechanical), you will be challenged with:
Managing all aspects of project development and delivery by providing oversight to the work of teams in the planning, design, construction, commissioning, and evaluation of assigned engineering projects and greening initiatives of all levels of complexity. Providing design management for projects and greening initiatives characterized by a medium to large complexity and value to satisfy time, cost, and scope and quality requirements consistent with departmental commitments to the client. Monitoring the review and acceptance of studies, design, and construction work for assigned projects.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCES
1. Experience as a mechanical engineer for a minimum of seven (7) years, with specialization in mechanical systems in buildings***.
2. *Recent and **significant experience working as part of a multidisciplinary project team providing full mechanical engineering services such as planning, preparing drawings, specifications, technical reviews, reports, condition assessments and tender documents for building mechanical engineering projects.
3. Experience in providing technical advice to stakeholders on mechanical systems in buildings.
4. *Recent experience in reviewing work prepared by other professionals for services including, but not limited to, quality assurance, compliance with standards, meeting project cost, adherence to schedule, or confirmation of scope in mechanical engineering projects.
5. Experience in project management related to building design and contract administration.
*"Recent” experience is defined as at least 5 years of experience after obtaining Professional Engineer license, within the last 10 years immediately prior to the submission of an application.
**“Significant” Is defined as having performed the role of the Engineer of Record, from design to completion, for at least two (2) new construction projects or two (2) major renovation projects. The budget for the mechanical construction portion of the listed projects must be a minimum of $500,000.00.
***”Mechanical systems in buildings” are defined as systems to be found in most types of buildings such as commercial, industrial, institutional, or office accommodation, for example HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and controls.

ABILITIES:

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
1. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
2. Certification as a professional in leadership in energy and environmental design (LEED).
EXPERIENCE
1. Experience in the design of LEED certified projects.
2. Experience in the review and development of standards or guidelines, related to building engineering such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, or controls.
3. Experience in technical review of mechanical engineering designs for various types of building constructions for example penitentiaries, security facilities, government offices, laboratories and research facilities.
4. Experience in selection and monitoring of consultants/sub-consultants and contractors.
5. Experience with writing and reviewing specifications.
6. Experience in human resources management including supervision of a minimum of 2 employees.
7. Experience in ACAD version 12 or later; or Revu Bluebeam.

2. Registration with the Provincial Engineers Association(s) in Canada where project(s) are performed.
3. Willingness and ability to work overtime and occasionally on short notice.
4. Willingness and ability to travel frequently by car, boat or small airplane.
5. Possession of a valid driver’s license or personal mobility to the extent normally associated with possession of a valid driver’s license, within the limits of Treasury Board Policy.
6. Willingness and ability to work in and around construction sites including federal correctional institutions.
7. Willingness and ability to wear protective equipment.
8. Willingness and ability, in the future, to undergo and maintain additional security clearance such as; secret and secret enhance, in order to meet government and clients’ needs.
