Duties

Day in the Life (Stream 1 - Vacuum Truck Driver/Operator): Operation of vacuum truck to conduct routine maintenance of sanitary sewer system, various outhouses and the storm sewer system.

Day in the Life (Stream 2 - Road Maintenance II): Conducts highway/road/street maintenance operating various heavy-duty equipment such as Vac-truck, Dump truck, Backhoe, and roadside mowers. The candidate is required to have a Class 3 License with an air brake endorsement. This position is also involved with ancillary maintenance and labor services for the park such as garbage and recycling, sewage disposal and organic material disposal.

Intent of the process

📚KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge of the operations and maintenance of a medium to heavy-duty Vacuum truck;
• Knowledge of light, medium and heavy equipment maintenance;
• Knowledge of parking lot and highway sign maintenance and repair;
• Knowledge of safety measures and safety regulations common to work sites.

📝ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
• Do you have *recent and significant experience in the operations of a medium to heavy duty Vacuum truck? Please describe with concrete examples, the nature and scope of your experience.

*Recent and significant is defined as experience acquired over a period of approximately five (5) years within approximately the past ten (10) years.

💡ABILITIES:
• Ability to communicate orally;
• Ability to operate light, medium and heavy equipment including but not limited to chainsaws, brush cutters, hand tools, and line painters etc;
• Ability to perform general labour tasks as they relate to roads and grounds maintenance (bucking downed trees, inspecting culverts and signs, etc.);
• Ability to work independently or part of a team.

📁 OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
• May be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks
• Willingness to work irregular hours, shift work, on standby, weekends, overtime and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation (i.e., to travel to work over roads closed to the public)
• Must be able to lift to 50lbs (22.5kg)
• Must be willing to operate all equipment within the environmental restrictions used in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

Conditions of employment

• Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance
• Must be in possession of and maintain a valid British Columbia Class 3 (with air brake endorsement)
