Duties

As a project manager your challenge will be to develop and manage operational projects related to built assets that are moderate in scope and complexity. As part of the Parks Canada team, you will be responsible for all aspects of project planning and implementation, including community, partner and stakeholder engagement as well as issue management. You will be asked to provide leadership to the project team to ensure investments in Parks Canada places meets the needs of Canadians today, and tomorrow.

Work environment

Based out of a small office in the vibrant northern city of Yellowknife, you will be supporting Parks Canada’s operations at four spectacular National Parks; Nahanni, Wood Buffalo, Nááts'įhch'oh and one of Canada’s newest national park reserves Thaidene Nëné. You will be working on a variety of projects that may include optimizing our asset management processes, rehabilitations and improvements to a large variety of existing assets from trails to highways and from visitor centers to float plane docks, as well as the design and construction of new assets to support our expanding operations. Many projects relate to our continual efforts to green our operations and reduce our impact on the environment.
Working alongside the asset manager located in Yellowknife, you will be collaborating with teams in various communities around the NWT. Travel to these communities and further into the parks may be required as part of your duties.

Intent of the process

The results from this competition may be used to staff similar positions in the future on an indeterminate, term, seasonal or acting assignment basis.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialty relevant to the duties of the position OR acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

• Experience in project management related to built assets;
• Experience writing technical documents such as request for proposals and statement of work required for the provision of contracted services;
• Working in a collaborative environment with diverse groups (e.g. cross functional teams, other government departments, rural municipalities, Indigenous organizations).

📌OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment; Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
• May be required to obtain secret security clearance for short term acting purposes;
• Willingness to work from various locations;
• Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight, off-site and/or weekends.

Conditions of employment

•Obtain and maintain Reliability Status;
•Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's license;
•When position is located in area classed as isolated and remote, a pre-employment medical examination of an individual and his/her dependants may be required.
