Intent of the process
Immediate need: 1 full-time temporary position (2.5 year term).
*Please note that this position requires on-site presence in Agassiz, British Columbia.
A pool of qualified and/or partially qualified candidates may be established and used to fill similar positions on a temporary or permanent basis.

📜 EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in agriculture, biology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry or in another field relevant to the duties of the position.
✅ EXPERIENCES
• Experience in implementing and monitoring compliance with health and safety programs in laboratory and field environments.
• Experience coordinating workplace inspections and accident investigations.
✅ KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of laboratory methodologies and operations.
• Knowledge of biosafety and biosecurity programs, practices and regulations.
• Knowledge of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and the Canada Labour Code Part II.
• Knowledge of the safe handling and disposal procedures for biological and chemical hazardous materials.
• Knowledge of the requirements and usage of personal protective equipment, including respirators.

• Experience conducting risk assessments in a science or laboratory setting.
• Experience providing safety training, including emergency responses and spill responses.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance
• Possession of a valid, class 5 British Columbia driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
• With appropriate safety precautions in place, able and willing to work in laboratory, greenhouse and field conditions.
• Under normal safety precautions, able and willing to work with hazardous materials.
• Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the duties to be performed.
• Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain throughout employment Respiratory Program Administrator certification.
• Ability and willingness to serve as the local Biological Safety Officer.
• Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain throughout employment Transportation of Dangerous Goods (air and ground) certification.
• Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain throughout employment Hazardous Spill Response certification.
