There is one Full-time permanent Supervisor, Mental Health Services position available starting on April 14, 2025, working 37.5 hours per week.

Your Role:

Participates in and collaborates with community partners in designing, planning, implementing, and assessing the therapeutic program environment and supervises the youth work staff’s implementation of the program. Supports the sustainability of Benjamin Road treatment model and approach. Provides oversight of operations within the live-in and day-treatment programs at Benjamin Road. Provides leadership and case consultation for youth and programs. Builds, implements, and fosters safe spaces to host conversations for learning and embedding equity, anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices, within team environment. Follows through on commitments to build an environment of trust and accountability.

Tasks:

Program Implementation:

  1. Participates in strategic planning for the program and ensures program oversight is aligned with agency goals.
  2. Assists in creating a work climate conducive to effective treatment that encourages innovation, creativity, learning and safety.
  3. Coordinates support services with community agencies to ensure effective and efficient treatment for clients.
  4. In consultation with the Manager, monitors wait lists and conducts pre-admission site visits.
  5. Ensures compliance with respective legislation including the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Child and Family Services Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, License and Accreditation standards.
  6. Responsible for ensuring Acting Shift Coordinator function is assigned and supports with emergency and/or urgent issues when on site. Ensures A.S.C. is assigned when not available.
  7. Participates in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  8. Liaises with clients, families, Mental Health Services staff, community agencies, and relevant ministries, providing information and ensuring continuity and effectiveness of treatment.
  9. Participates in a variety of meetings including staff meetings, treatment team meetings, case conferences, plans of care, family meetings, treatment planning, and program review ensuring continuity and effectiveness of the program.
  10. Provides various case coordination and team facilitation functions as assigned.
  11. Responsible for Youth Justice Provincial Director duties including Level of Detention Assessments (LODAs), as needed.
  12. Provides information sessions to community partners to ensure effective referrals.

Supervision:

  1. Responsible for screening, interviewing, and hiring new team/department members in consultation with the Manager and Human Resources Department.
  2. Responsible for providing or ensuring initial training and orientation is provided to all new direct reports as assigned.
  3. Responsible for conducting monthly supervision/performance coaching meetings with all direct reports and provides opportunities for debrief on an informal basis.
  4. Provides leadership and support to employees within the area(s) of responsibility.
  5. Provides support following critical incidents in collaboration with the Program Manager and Risk Manager.
  6. Implements responsive leadership tools and strategies to support employees, including liaising with HR on employee accommodations and concerns.
  7. Responsible for completing preferred leadership profiles with all new direct reports.
  8. Responsible for the administration of probationary/annual performance reviews and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed and submitted in a timely manner and creates opportunities for staff recognition.
  9. Responsible for training and development of staff within the area(s) of responsibility, including the Agency & Benjamin Rd policies, and specific legislative requirements.
  10. Involved in disciplinary and termination decisions and actions in consultation with the Manager, Director and Human Resources Department.
  11. Acts as a resource, direct and on-call support for program staff to ensure effective problem solving, communication, goal setting, adherence to agency policy and legislative requirements, and integration of Benjamin Road Treatment Model.
  12. Acts as a resource and liaison with other programs, service delivery partners and contractors, ensuring mutually beneficial relationships and operational needs are met.
  13. Develops and monitors an effective pool of relief staff.
  14. Oversees task assignment, completion, and workload distribution for assigned employees.
  15. Contributes to the development of accommodation plans for staff.
  16. Reviews employe engagement information (e.g., insights surveys) and collaborates on implementation of new approaches and strategies.

Leadership:

  4. Prioritizes the implementation of the agency’s Equity Strategy as it pertains to the supervision of the live-in and day treatment staff.
  5. Role-modelling and supporting in the implementation of anti-oppressive practices.
  6. Supports employees using a strength-based and solution focused approach.
  7. Responsible for maintaining a high level of employee engagement and promoting a healthy organizational work culture.
  8. Builds on employee strengths and relationships to inspire, motivate and support staff.
  9. Provides operational leadership to ensure service outcomes are achieved.
  10. Leads and supports internal and external committees/task forces i.e., JHSC, suicide prevention and intervention committee, crisis intervention techniques training group, etc.

Client Service:

  1. Performs primary health coordination in Nurse Therapist’s absence, ensures trained staff are administering medication and attending to clients’ medical needs.
  2. Provides direct support, counselling, and intervention to clients.
  3. Provides leadership regarding the client complaint procedure and acts as a direct point of contact with families following critical incidents.

Administration:

  1. Develops and monitors staff schedules to ensure programs are adequately staffed for program operations and to meet Ministry standards.
  2. Timecard completion for all direct reports.
  3. Assists the Manager with monitoring and evaluating program targets.
  4. 45. Assists with statistical collection.
  5. Ensures that reports, records, logs, and manuals are maintained.
  6. Serious Occurrence Report - completing, updating, and monitoring the status of SORs
  7. Facilitating and approval of client specific processes and reports e.g., safety planning, treatment planning and goal setting, pausing in person treatment process, etc.
  8. Oversees and monitors program budgets as assigned.
  9. Ensures the health and safety standards of the agency are maintained.
  10. Coordinates Ministry training and financial reimbursement.
  11. Reviews and approves incident reports, timecards and expense reports.

    Your Talents and Experience:

    Diploma or degree in child and youth work, social services, social work, or psychology, plus a minimum of three years' experience at the Agency or similar type of setting, and a minimum of one year supervisor/managerial experience, or a minimum of four years relevant education and special experiences or skills. Experience working in Children’s Mental Health system and knowledge of treatment approach is considered an asset. Alignment with the Agency’s commitment to antiracism and anti-oppression practices. Passionate, informed and engaged in anti-racist, anti-oppressive frameworks, and perspectives. Able to build authentic and sustainable relationships with staff members, clients, and community partners. Alignment with the agency’s commitment to antiracism, anti-oppression and equity practices. Demonstrates effective communication skills, including strong report writing skills; the ability to delegate as well as accept direction. Committed to a team-oriented approach; able to coordinate staff and program schedules to meet identified needs and targets. Approaches problems with a solution focused mindset. Commitment to helping youth within the context of the program and to be a resource to multidisciplinary treatment teams. A sound understanding of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered an asset. Valid “G” Class License with a two-million-dollar liability policy as part of personal car insurance considered an asset. Willing to be trained and implement/support approved crisis intervention model. Required to be available to work as part of an on-call rotation.

When determining rate of pay for external hires, a candidate’s past related experience will be taken into consideration along with where others with similar experience currently fall within the band.
