There is one Full-Time permanent Systems Analyst position available starting on February 20, 2025, working 37.5 hours per week.
Your Role:
The System Analyst’s role is to ensure the stable operation of the hybrid cloud systems, security systems and network connections. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network, security, software and communication links through a variety of means including performing technical onsite service throughout the organization. Also conducts training and is responsible for inventory control. Works intentionally from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive perspective to further create a sense of belonging at the Agency.
Tasks:
Systems Management:
- Manages and administrates all operating systems and their corresponding or associated software.
- Supports the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Deploys and maintains firewalls, cryptography systems, and all host security activities.
- Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user desktops.
- Researches and advises IT Manager in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for replacing technologies and/or meeting future corporate technology needs, for both hardware and software.
- Conducts research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
- Manages and ensures the integrity of host computers, multiple databases and data transfer.
- Obtains, maintains and communicates knowledge or technology relating to the needs of the programs.
- Provides maintenance to an easy to use, secure e-mail system.
- Assists in increasing the efficiency of the IT department through the use of new technology and methods.
- Assists in developing processes and procedures to control risk in the systems area.
- Designs, develops and tests complete corporate workstation software images on new and existing computers.
- Designs and develops corporate intranet dynamic content.
- Maintains service logs.
- Manages, administrates, configures, maintains and troubleshoots all resources for the IP Telephony Communication system which includes (but is not exclusive to) switches, phones, voicemail, and other devices.
- Tests and implements new technologies.
- Works with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
- In consultation with Information Technology Manager, develops business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
- Administers vendor, outsourced, and consultant contracts and service agreements.
- Coordinates the delivery of other software training as required.
- Practices asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.
Network Administration:
- Performs general maintenance on network (i.e. taking system down, repairs, taking system back up.)
- Creates, modifies, or removes user accounts and server resources.
- Monitors back-up programs for server to ensure they are completed correctly.
- Analyzes system or application usage and plans for growth or increases in network capacity.
- Performs ongoing network and security audits.
- Troubleshoots Wide Area Network routers, hubs, switches, VLANs, Fibre Wide Area Network and Internet connectivity.
- Upgrades, maintains, reinstalls and evaluates software packages and applications.
- Sets up new computers using purchased core components.
- Maintains an inventory of hardware and software.
- Upgrades, maintains and installs hardware devices.
Corporate Helpdesk:
- Maintains corporate helpdesk software and procedures.
- Receives and records customer requests at the call center location.
- Determines the nature of the request (hardware or software), prioritizes, and assigns ownership.
- Performs 1st (basic customer support) and 2nd (application support) level technical support using software tools, telephone support or on site visits and refers issue to 3rd (external) level support if required.
- Brings issues to closure via customer follow up.
- Performs statistical reporting on call center volume.
- Provides exceptional customer service to third party contracts.
Special Projects, Training and Mentoring:
- Consults, plans, develops, and implements various software or hardware projects as needed and approved by the organization.
- Assists agency staff in carrying out technological projects (point of sale, database management, website development, medical assistance, etc.
- In conjunction with the Manager, provides initial or ongoing training, instruction, guidance and support to the team, students on placement and/or volunteers on systems and/or processes.
- provides initial and ongoing training to junior team members, placement students and/or volunteers to carry out daily tasks and ensure the functions of the work unit are completed.
- Promotes a mindset of continuous learning, growth and skill development; assists with problem solving.

Your Talents and Experience:
A degree or diploma in computer science, or network administration. Experience with Microsoft Server products or Microsoft Certification is preferred. Proficient with Microsoft365. Ability to listen to a wide range of customers. Excellent communication skills are required to translate technical information into lay person’s terms. Passionate, aware, and willing to learn about antiracism, anti-oppression and equity. Ability to work independently. Excellent problem-solving skills. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are essential for this position.

Rate of Pay: At Starling Community Services all salaries are categorized under a series of "bands" determined during our job evaluation process. When determining rate of pay for external hires, a candidate’s past related experience will be taken into consideration along with where others with similar experience currently fall within the band.
Note: most new team members will start between the starting salary and the mid-point of the range.
Job Band I (hourly wages): Min - $31.40, Mid - $34.45, Max - $39.72
