Role Overview:

Lerners is seeking a dynamic and highly self-motivated Communications Specialist to join the Marketing and Business Development team. This role is central to shaping and sharing the firm’s story, enhancing its public profile, and ensuring all communications consistently reflect our brand and reputation for excellence. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, professional environment and can balance creativity with precision to deliver impactful messaging across various platforms. This is a hybrid position and requires a minimum of three (3) days in office or as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Creation & Brand Communications
    • Develop, edit, and manage client-facing content across multiple channels: website, newsletters, social media, advertising, press releases, client alerts, presentations, and marketing collateral.
    • Draft and maintain lawyer biographies, practice/industry descriptions, and thought leadership content.
    • Ensure all content aligns with brand guidelines, tone, and quality standards.

  2. Awards, Directories & Recognitions
    • Lead submissions for legal rankings, directories, and awards – from information gathering to crafting persuasive narratives.
    • Track deadlines and collaborate with lawyers and practice groups to ensure timely, high-quality submissions.

  3. E-Newsletters & Campaigns
    • Manage firm-wide and practice-specific e-newsletter development, distribution, and performance reporting.
    • Create strategic and engaging communications plans to promote client wins, community initiatives, events, and firm milestones.

  4. Media Relations & Monitoring
    • Monitor media coverage, legal industry news, and relevant market developments.
    • Draft media pitches and prepare media briefing materials.

  5. Research & Thought Leadership
    • Research industry trends, client sectors, and speaking/writing opportunities to position lawyers as subject-matter experts.
    • Support business development efforts with tailored content for proposals, events, and sponsorships.

  6. Performance Reporting & Insights
    • Track, analyze, and report on key communications KPIs, campaign performance, and media engagement.
    • Provide actionable insights to practice groups and leadership to guide strategic decisions.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar marketing, communications, or business development role.
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with law firm or professional services experience.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to adapt style for various audiences and formats.
  • Proven ability to turn complex topics into accessible, client-friendly content.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva (or similar design tools), email marketing platforms, and website content management systems (CMS).
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools and analytics platforms.
  • Demonstrates creativity, initiative, attention to detail, and a strong ability to collaborate across teams.
