PROFILE

Reporting to the IP Supervisor (Trademarks), the IP Specialist performs a variety of administrative support related to the prosecution of and/or renewal and maintenance of Trademarks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare routine and non-routine correspondence to be sent to CIPO, Foreign Associates and clients according to precedents and/or instructions from the professional, supervisor/manager or client.
  • Coordinating the intake of portfolios into the firm.
  • Provides overflow support to members of the IP Department across all offices.
  • Provides support and mentoring to members of the IP Department across all offices.
  • Liaising with officials at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and clients, on an as-need basis.
  • Liaise between the IP Professionals and the IP Legal Administrative Assistants, Specialists and Coordinators.
  • Assist the IP Supervisor and IP Services Manager in resolving problems and with ongoing projects, ensuring that all Firm policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant post secondary education (such Administrative Assistant or Legal Administrative Assistant Diploma)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Intellectual Property with a focus on Trademarks
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other Firm members, with the aptitude to take care of clients’ needs in a professional and courteous manner
  • Capacity to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Produce a high quality and quantity of work product, occasionally under tight timelines
  • Able to prioritize and to redefine priorities when necessary
  • Handle stress in a business-like manner
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset
