PROFILE
We are currently recruiting for a Financial Analyst, Tax & Treasury to join our Finance team! The Financial Analyst plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Working with others on the team, the Financial Analyst helps maintain strong stewardship of the Firm and client assets by ongoing monitoring of internal controls, building strong relationships with financial institutions and tax regulatory bodies. They also assist our professionals by providing appropriate sales tax information and the finance team with the required banking support.
This position can be based out of any of our Canadian offices!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for operating bank account reconciliations including resolution of any unusual activity.
- Review of monthly trust account bank reconciliations to ensure meet law society requirements and internal control standards.
- Record monthly bank fees and ensure amounts are in line with banking agreements.
- Responsible for monthly sales tax analysis and filings including review and resolution of any unusual activity.
- Assist with implementation and maintenance of treasury management systems including updating user access and new processes.
- Prepare daily and monthly reporting on banking and tax activities as well as address all ad hoc requests in a timely manner.
- Balance Sheet and Income Statement account analysis to ensure appropriate tax classification.
- Assist in responding to sales tax and tax form queries from Finance and professionals as well as reviewing the daily notifications on appropriate sales tax allocation on invoicing.
- Key contact with tax authorities and financial institution teams to resolve issues
- Undertake business process efficiency reviews, takes ownership of tasks and system automation opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and ASPE, the partnership’s accounting and tax policies as well as provincial law society rules and requirements.
- Working as part of a team, provide guidance to professionals and the Finance operational team
- Liaise with auditors and consultants regarding tax accounting and bank account audit requirements.
- Assist with various Finance projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree; working towards a professional accounting designation such as CPA
- Previous experience in a tax or banking role is an asset
- Demonstrates a solutions-oriented approach, challenges status quo, and strives to improve processes
- Ability to manage multiple and competing tasks/priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel (Advanced Level), PowerPoint and Outlook
- Experience working with SQL databases, Power BI and Power Query Experience is an asset
- Ability to promote a collaborative work/team environment by presenting a professional and responsive attitude towards others and by demonstrating prompt and conscientious work habits
Gowling WLG employees benefit from a hybrid work environment.
The starting range for this role is $55,000 to $70,000. Starting salary will be determined based on an applicant’s individual skills, competencies and unique qualifications. Gowling WLG employees have the potential to exceed this range based on tenure and performance.
