Who are we looking for?
Our Ontario Region is seeking a Waste Management Lead Engineer to join our North American waste management team of 120 professionals providing traditional and emerging services with our waste and energy clients.
This position is a phenomenal opportunity to be part of an established practice with an exciting future ahead. We are seeking a technically strong Lead Waste Engineer who wants to take an active role in growing our North American team to leverage GHD’s significant experience in new and innovative technologies. The role can be based out of any of our offices in GTA - Mississauga, Markham, Toronto or Waterloo.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Engineering Solutions Design: Leading waste and energy solutions projects for municipal and private clients requiring permitting, detailed design, construction management and inspection, operations support, and other studies
- Technical Developments Recommendation: Leading technical approach development for new project proposals
- Professional Supervision: Completing peer reviews of designs completed by other team members. Providing leadership in the growth and direction of the North American Team
- Feasibility Studies: Conduct complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and document findings to complete cost-benefit analysis on implementing changes to business processes, products, or business unit structure.
- Waste Management: Manage specific segments of waste management, involving waste reduction programs, waste segregation, compliance, storage, transport, and disposal.
- Project Management: Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues.
- Client & Customer Management (External): Establishing and maintain long-lasting client relationships with municipal and private clients and prospects
- Mentoring: Providing mentorship to intermediate and junior technical staff across North America
- Undertaking liaison activities with regulators
- Engineering Standards Specification: Analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to ensure work of the required quality is delivered and to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
- Health, Safety, and Environment: Monitor and review performance against health, safety, and environment (HSE) key performance indicators (KPIs) and patterns of behavior within the area of responsibility. Take action to improve performance and to resolve noncompliance with the organization's HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions.
What you’ll bring to the team:
- P.Eng. designation in Ontario required; accreditation in other Canadian provinces is considered an asset
- 15+ years of experience
- Valid Ontario driver's license with driving record in good standing
- Willingness and ability for occasional project travel and oversight of field work by team
- Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint
- Working understanding of Autodesk, AutoCAD or Civil 3D an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills and ability to work in a highly-skilled and diversified project team
- Experience in landfill and landfill gas, transfer station, and waste facility design. Experience with organic waste processing, waste processing technologies, and energy projects is considered an asset.
