We are seeking an EIC Design Automation & Standardization Lead to join our dynamic I&C team in Waterloo/GTA. This is an exciting hybrid opportunity to develop and deploy automation tools to optimize deliverable preparation, drive standardization and enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability of our work. The candidate will also have an opportunity to get involve in complex infrastructure projects in municipal w/ww, energy, and industrial sectors that directly impact public health, sustainability, and resilience.

Responsibilities
- Data Collection and Analysis: Conduct research using primary data sources to support the development and refinement of automation tools for EIC deliverables. Analyze key themes and trends to improve accuracy and efficiency of loop drawings, control schematics, wiring diagrams, tagging lists, and cable schedules.
- Technical Developments Recommendation: Discuss and recommend technical developments aimed at improving the quality, functionality, and efficiency of software platforms and automation infrastructure. Standardize templates and logic for broader application across projects and regions to enhance usability and user satisfaction.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Manage technical troubleshooting related to automation tools and engineering systems, ensuring accurate diagnosis and resolution of issues with equipment, code, and software configurations to maintain performance and reliability.
- Research: Achieve specific goals as part of research initiatives focused on improving the quality and integration of applications and automation solutions. Collaborate within established research frameworks to inform system enhancements and digital workflows.
- Personal Capability Building: Continuously develop personal and technical capabilities through formal and informal learning, staying current with automation trends, digital engineering practices, and industry standards. Participate in coaching and training initiatives to support knowledge sharing and adoption of new tools.
- Testing: Develop test procedures and standards to validate automation tools and outputs. Document and refine automation workflows to ensure consistency, compliance with client requirements, and functional reliability in real-world applications.
- Project Management: Deliver small- to medium-scale projects related to automation and EIC integration, working within established management plans and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure timely and effective execution.
- Engineering Drawings: Create and review complex engineering drawings generated through automated tools, ensuring accuracy in design outputs and alignment with engineering intent, standards, and client expectations.
- Equipment Installation: Lead or support the installation and configuration of complex automation systems within engineering environments. Oversee integration with physical infrastructure and ensure alignment with project goals and specifications.
- Process Design Engineering: Analyze process information and recommend methods, equipment, and automation approaches to continuously improve EIC deliverables and system outputs while meeting cost, quality, and performance targets.
- Engineering Solutions Design: Design robust engineering solutions that leverage automation tools to meet design briefs. Validate against regulatory and client standards, ensuring technical soundness and cost-effective implementation.
- Installation Monitoring and Control: Operate and oversee automated systems and engineering installations, ensuring that standard assignments are completed efficiently and that any issues are resolved using appropriate engineering techniques and automation best practices.
- Client & Customer Management (External): Maintain and support relationships with small clients, while assisting senior colleagues in managing key accounts. Facilitate client understanding and adoption of automated workflows and support in aligning technical solutions with client needs.
Education
- Diploma or degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Systems, or related field.
Experience
- General Experience: Substantial general work experience together with comprehensive job-related experience in own area of expertise to fully competent level. (Over 6 years to 10 years)
- Experience with scripting, or engineering software customization (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, VBA, Python, Dynamo) and interfaces with databases.
- Familiarity with I&C and Electrical deliverables.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
