GHD is looking for an Engineering Manager – Major Projects that is accountable for supporting the performance and growth of the Engineering Design Organization (EDO) Regional Business Group. In this position the Engineering Manager will focus on the EDO portfolio of Major Projects that are being supported and executed by the discipline business groups and EDO. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for the portfolio ensuring project performance, achievement of as-bid EDO level of efforts, quality and schedule objectives are met by EDO staff and the assigned Design Manager.
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Supports the development and assists in the implementation of the EDO Business Group Business Plan (Based on Market and other Business group plans)
- Build effective relationships with the Business Group Leadership and their key clients
- Understands BGs major project pursuit pipeline and ensures that EDO is engaged in positioning, proposal and execution efforts as per the RASCI
- Actively participates in professional and/or industrial organizations to promote the GHD brand.
- Collaborates with senior members of the business group as well as the Americas and Regional Market Leaders and Client Sector Leader to achieve excellent business outcomes
- Develop and mentor Design Mangers, Team Leaders, Supervisors, Project Discipline Leads and senior leadership within the Business Group in the delivery of major projects
- Work with project directors, project managers and project teams to improve job delivery skills on major projects
- Demonstrate support and compliance with the requirements of the GHD HSE Management system and management participation matrix
- Act as Design Manager, Project Manager or Project Director on appropriate projects
- Attracts strategic hires for the EDO Business Group
- Take on the Line Manager role as required per EDO organization structure. Manage EDO staff (under their direct supervision), resource planning, utilization, project staffing, growth plans for, while growing opportunities and capacity
- Work with the EDO BGL to create a positive culture that instils accountability, use of best practices, schedule and budget performance measures, and meets other defined KPIs for the EDO staff and organization.
- Provide design portfolio oversight, technical direction and coaching to senior and junior engineering design management staff. Develop and foster relationships with internal GHD BGLs and new external clients
- Be an advocate and assist in making the EDO meet expectations and be accountable in meeting project as-bid metrics.
- Ensure that major projects are bid using appropriate EDO staff to develop scopes and LOE components of the bid.
- Ensure that design packages that are to be executed are properly scoped and budgeted and that they have endorsed Workplans and follow our Quality Management Systems.
- Serve as a member of the EDO Leadership team.
- Serve as a member of Major Project steering committees
- Partner with the Regional DDLs and Service Line Leaders to identify the strategies, tools, and skill sets needed to grow gain new market share within the Region.
- Ensure that the delivery of major projects within the EM’s Regional portfolio result in:
- Superior Client Service with respect to adhering to the contracted scope, and schedule
- Sound Technical Quality
- Strong Financial Performance
What you will bring to the team
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the field of Engineering or Architecture.
- Minimum 15 to 20 years of experience in a similar role with an engineering consulting firm
- Has proven experience with major/large projects and complex project delivery including Design for Design Build
- Extensive experience on progressive Design and P3 projects
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in the areas of personnel management, decision making.
- Organizational change, employee development, performance management, and team building skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Ability to lead and cooperate with a team in various environments, as well as work independently.
- Strong written and oral communication (English) skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
