Who are we looking for?

GHD has an opening in our Ontario Region for a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Coordinator to work out of our Waterloo office. We are looking for someone who aspires to succeed in a vibrant, well-established company.

GHD’s HSE Team supports the day-to-day business needs for the Ontario Region, including in the areas of heavy construction, engineering design, environmental site services, landfill operations, geotechnical engineering and field inspections, hazardous material spill and emergency response services, materials testing laboratory environments, mining, and construction administration, for a diverse array of private and public sector clients.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Work closely with members of the Ontario HSE team to support Enterprise- and Ontario-driven tasks, actions and initiatives.
• Assist with coordination and scheduling of internal and external HSE staff training to ensure compliance with legislated and GHD requirements.
• Assist the Regional HSE team with preparing for and completing annual internal and external Certificate of Recognition (COR) audits.
• Assist with the development of Ontario Region HSE performance reports, communications, newsletters, posters, etc.
• Support and organize HSE team meetings, including recording meeting minutes, and updating correspondence and critical HSE documentation, as required.
• Provide support to all Joint Health and Safety Committees in Ontario Region offices and material testing laboratories to ensure compliance with legislated and GHD requirements.
• Facilitate and support emergency management programs in Ontario Region offices and materials testing laboratories.
• Conduct safety equipment fit testing, and maintenance of related testing records.
• Conduct, support and/or participate in special projects, as assigned.
• Ensure the security and confidentiality of all information managed by the HSE team.
• Report to the Ontario Regional HSE Manager.

What you will bring to the team:

• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or other job-related field.
• 1-3 years of Health and Safety experience preferred. Experience in construction, environmental services, materials testing, hazardous site remediation; and/or consulting, is an asset but not required.
• Working knowledge of related Ontario HSE legislation, and the ability to interpret the regulations and laws is an asset.
• Having strong work ethic, energetic, goal-oriented.
• Self-motivated, to plan and implement daily tasks with minimal supervision.
• Detail oriented, with strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
• Positive attitude, commitment to strong teamwork and strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in computer systems, namely Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), Adobe, etc.
• Must have a current valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Available for travel within Ontario (approximately 5 % of the working year).
• May be required to complete additional courses as necessary to support the role.
