Senior Product Manager

The Senior Product Manager will lead all activities related to ongoing development and refinement of a product portfolio for our newly formed global Products and Platforms division.

Building on 20+ years of success as a consultancy-focused organization, developing customer centric applications for hundreds of public sector clients, we are implementing an ambitious SaaS product strategy to rapidly scale and grow our business.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Product Manager will be responsible for the leadership and guidance of a product portfolio. This position serves as the voice of the market internally and a brand ambassador externally. The Senior Product Manager will work in coordination with the leadership team, user experience & design, marketing, sales, software development, program management, operations, partners, and customers to set the overall direction and roadmap for the product portfolio.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead / conduct customer research, market research, competitive analysis.
• Work with Marketing to define target markets, market positioning, market sizing, value proposition and differentiation and pricing & packaging models.
• Develop business cases to support new features / functionality / modules and/or product lines.
• Work with other Product Managers, Product Owners and the UX team to develop market requirements documents (MRDs).
• Analyze emerging market, product, competition, technology, and service trends and utilize the insights to support strategy and roadmap development.
• Research, analyze and identify possible partner opportunities.
• Develop and maintain product strategy to guide overall product direction and investments.
• Work with Marketing to help design market research/pre-sales projects to assess customer attitudes to the current product range and new product introductions.
• Work closely with customers, prospects, and partners to understand their challenges and create detailed use cases and opportunity reports.
• Support Marketing in the development of sales and channel enablement materials.
• Work with UX to provide product guidance based on inputs from customers, internal, and external resources, and industry best practices.
• Create and maintain a rolling 3-year product roadmap using the process and tools assigned.
• Decide, prioritize, and manage tactical product requests, including quick, just-in-time decisions.
• Manage the full product life cycle.
• Be the voice of the market within the company and a brand ambassador outside the company.
• Attend GHD exhibits and give presentations to mixed audiences about thought leadership, markets, problems, technologies, and GHD products at conferences.
• Provide input to senior management about potential acquisition decisions.
• Represent the Head of Product and/or the department at internal and external events as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ideally 10+ years of experience in a product management role.
• Ideally 10+ years of experience with SaaS and platform solutions.
• 5+ years of experience working with / delivering solutions to municipal and other public sector organizations.
• 5+ years of experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) and Platform Solutions.
• Positive attitude and personality.
• Able to build positive, productive relationships with both internal stakeholders and teams as well as external customers and partners.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead product development from inception to first customer shipment.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, highly dynamic and at times ambiguous environment.
• Ability to build strong relationships with senior managers inside the company as well as key individuals outside the company.
• Strong executive presence, with a reputation for unquestioned integrity.
• Comfortable and credible in dealing directly with customers.
• Excellent, compelling written and verbal communicator. Able to clearly articulate complex concepts in a concrete way. Excellent presentation skills.
• Strong analytical skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret market business needs and translate them into requirements for the product roadmap.
• Experience with solutions that include SaaS, user interface, wireless technology, and mobile apps. Familiar with the requirements of shipping hardware and software globally.
• Ability to operate in an Agile development environment.
• Experience with discrete and recurring pricing models.
• Experience with direct and indirect government tender and sales processes.
• Experience with CRM tools, Confluence and JIRA.
• Experience with the SAFe or Shape Up planning approaches.

CREDENTIALS

• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or software development (or a relative combination of education and experience).
• Ideally Pragmatic Certified Product Manager.
• Ideally and Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent.
• Ideally Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO).
• Ideally holds a Certified Procurement Professional (CPP) designation.

LOCATION & TRAVEL This role will be based out of the GHD

HQ in Waterloo and the Senior Product Manager is required to be within driving distance of the Waterloo office. Given that the Senior Product Manager needs to attend conferences and events, visit customers and/or visit partners, the individual filling this role needs to be willing to travel 10-20% of the time.
