GHD is looking for a Student Technicians (New Graduates or Co-ops) ready to join our Whitby or Peterborough office for the Summer / Fall 2024 term. Under the mentorship of experienced team members, you will provide support to the environmental engineering team by supporting brownfield redevelopment projects, working on environmental site assessments and remediation projects, and contributing to multi-disciplinary construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of project related technical documents including environmental reports, technical specifications, work plans & cost estimates, and drawings for review.
  • Field work and oversight associated with environmental investigations, OM&M sites, and remediation activities will be required, and will likely include drilling oversight, soil sampling, well installation, groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, investigative/remedial excavation oversight, vapour sampling, air quality monitoring, etc. Gaining experience in the field will include the potential for travel within Ontario. Field demands can include working long hours, working in inclement weather conditions, and working in remote locations.
  • Assist in the coordination and scheduling of project related work, including working with other GHD staff, external contractors, and public entities (i.e. obtain permits)

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in one of the following programs or its equivalent:
    • Bachelors of Engineering (Civil, Environmental, or Chemical)
    • Bachelor of Science (Geological Science, Environmental Science, Physics or Chemistry)
    • Graduate Certificate program for Environmental Assessment
    • College Diploma program for Environmental Technician or Technologist
  • Working towards one of the following is an asset:
    • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.)
    • Professional Geoscience (P. Geo)
    • Environmental Professional (EP)
  • Recent graduates and current students will be given consideration.
  • Interest in the nuclear industry is an asset.
  • Positive attitude, good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and be highly communicative.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Comfortable working outdoors
  • Experience with MS Office
  • Valid driver's license (an MVR check will be performed prior to hire)
  • Preference will be given to Indigenous Candidates (First Nations status or non-status, Metis, and Inuit)
