Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Transportation Planner / Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering team.

The Transportation group within GHD Canada works with Provincial, Regional, and local municipal transportation agencies on large-scale projects across the whole Transportation spectrum of highways, roads and bridges, transit infrastructure, transportation planning, and roundabouts. Our team provides coordinated transportation services throughout the project lifecycle from initial policy, transportation economics, and business advice, through concept, Environmental Assessment, detailed design, and construction administration.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Have the ability to lead and deliver multidisciplinary projects (within Transportation Planning)
  • Have validated experience in people/team management
  • Contribute to the development of junior staff
  • Coordinate work from different teams (municipal, structural, technical support staff, etc.)
  • Develop client relationships and new business opportunities
  • Prepare inventories of road facilities and transit services
  • Undertake research and analysis of land use, demographic, and travel data
  • Resolve requirements and broader transportation impact for proposed developments
  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of travel forecasts
  • Develop and assess alternative road improvements
  • Develop preliminary road designs, prepare technical memos, reports, and graphics
  • Incorporate transit, pedestrian, transportation demand management strategies, and active transportation into studies
  • Provide traffic engineering services for Environmental Assessments, Preliminary and Detail roadway projects
  • Review and develop on-site circulation plans
  • Prepare parking justification and loading studies
  • Perform micro simulation and intersection operations analysis

What you will bring to the team:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering with 7 years of experience in transportation
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-training in Ontario
  • Understanding of relevant transportation planning and traffic engineering policies and design standards in Ontario
  • Experience with safety audits and collision analysis
  • Experience with AutoCAD or GIS is an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of traffic operational assessment. Experience with transportation software such as Synchro, Sidra, Vissim, Aimsun and/or other traffic software will be an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of transportation planning. Experience with macro modelling software will be an asset
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communicational skills (both verbal and written)
  • Valid Driver’s license
